Mar 15, 2022

Tempe, Ariz.– In the final game before conference play, the Sun Devils got another run rule win on Tuesday at Farrington Stadium  which included 13 hits and three home runs as No. 22 Arizona State (19-5) took down Marist (9-12), 9-1.

The weather is getting hot again in Tempe, but the bats stay hot from the weekend for the Sun Devils as ASU had 13 hits after three innings. Jazmyn Rollin and Emily Cazares hit back-to-back homers in the top of the first to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Alynah Torres hit the third home run of the evening and her second of the season. ASU has outscored its opponents during the eight-game winning streak, 61-5.

"I thought our bats came alive tonight, it's a good midweek game for us to get ready for Oregon State," head coach Trisha Ford said. "We're going to face some really good pitching moving forward, but we're prepared for that."

After getting the win Sunday over Ball State, senior Marissa Schuld got the start again in the circle. Schuld had a successful night as she struck out the first three batters she faced in the first inning en route to 10 strikeouts pitching a complete game, which is a new career high.

How it Happened:
ASU 9, Marist 1

  • An RBI double off of Sanders to left field brought in Acuña to put ASU on the board in the bottom of the first. The ninth home run of the season for Emily Cazares to right center with Sanders on second made it 3-0 for the Sun Devils. Next up in the box was Jazmyn Rollin who homered to left field to make it a 4-0 lead for ASU in the bottom of the first.
  • Schuld got things done in the circle in the top of the second inning for the Sun Devils' half of the second inning. Savannah Price doubled to continue the hot bats for ASU and a home run to left field from Alynah Torres tacked on two more runs for the Sun Devils to increase the lead to 6-0.
  • A double to left field by Price with one out in the bottom of the third brought in Halle Harger, Rollin and Cazares to clear the bases and increase the lead for ASU further to 9-0.
  • The Red Foxes got things done in the bottom of the fourth, and Marist got on the board with a single to third base to make it 9-1 in the top of the fifth. Schuld and the team got things done in the circle to hold on to win.

On Schuld's performance
"Marissa has done a tremendous job of continuing to work. She sat out all last year and she worked her tail off both offensively and defensively in the circle. I'm happy for her to see all the pieces start to come together. She's starting to get more confident as each outing comes together. I'm very excited to see what she's going to do in the maroon and gold."
