Triston Lara Signs NLI With Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State wrestling head coach Chris Pendleton announced Tuesday that Triston Lara, a transfer from Northern Iowa, has signed a National Letter of Intent for the 2022-23 season.
 
Lara, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, has won 33 matches over four seasons – not including a redshirt season in 2017-18 - at Northern Iowa and will enter next season as a redshirt senior. He was an NCAA qualifier at 149 pounds in 2020-21, which included a defeat of No. 10 Mike Van Brill (Rutgers) at the NCAA Championships.
 
He is 7-2 lifetime in bouts decided by pins and 8-3 via major decisions.
 
Lara is a two-time 3A Iowa state champion, winning at 138 pounds in 2017 and 126 pounds in 2016. He placed second at 113 pounds as a sophomore, and fourth at 106 pounds his freshman season. He set a high school record with a 170-12 record during his career.
 
The 2021-22 Beavers get the NCAA Championships underway Thursday in Detroit. OSU sent eight wrestlers to the three-day event, the team's most since 2012.
