Cats Stumble In Closing Round of NGRC

Mar 16, 2022

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. -- A difficult final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge ended on a high note as Arizona Women's Golf sank a handful of birdies in the final three holes to finish in 12th place at 38-over par for the tournament. The Wildcats got a pair of top-30 performances from freshmen Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier.

"We stuck with it throughout a very challenging day and never gave in, which was important for me to see," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Ending the day on a high note gave us a lift to end the week that I believe we can carry with us. We didn't have things go our way this week, but our young ladies never stopped competing."

With a final scorecard of 4-over par for the tournament, Melgrati finished tied for 12th and posted her third consecutive top-12 finish. Her week was highlighted by her opening round of 68 that marked the lowest round of her young collegiate career. Pinthier finished tied for 26th at 7-over par, which gave her a sixth top-30 finish in her freshman season.

The Wildcats will return to action for the ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Course in Tempe, beginning on Saturday, March 26.
