Women's Tennis Falls to #14 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Utah Women's tennis lost to No. 14 California, 7-0, in their first match of the weekend.
"Credit to Cal for taking it to us from the start and holding their level throughout the entire dual," said head coach Ric Mortera. "We had some spots that we could have taken advantage of but could not capitalize on. We look forward to a tomorrow to make some improvements and necessary changes to be ready for our next match."

The first doubles match to finish was Lindsay Hung and Madeline Lamoreaux were defeated 6-2 by Erin Richardson/Julia Rosenqvist. Taking the doubles point, No. 47 ranked California team, Jessica Alsola/Katja Wiersholm, won against No. 54 Utah team, Emily Dush and Anastasia Goncharova, 6-0. Linda Huang and Madison Tattini's match was left unfinished, but they were tied with their opponents 3-3.
Huang went head to head with 103rd ranked player Haley Giavara and lost in the second set, 6-3, 6-1. While competing against a ranked opponent, Jessica Alsola (#53), Dush was defeated 6-3, 6-0. Huang went to head with California's third-ranked singles player, Katja Wiersholm (#107) and lost 6-0, 6-1. 
Goncharova put up a strong fight against Bear, Julia Rosenqvist. Goncharova won her first set in a tough couple of games, winning 7-5. She lost the second set 6-1, sending the match to a 10-point tiebreaker where she was defeated 10-5.
Tattini battled it out against opponent Hannah Viller Moeller. Tattini was narrowly defeated in the first set after a 7-point tiebreaker, 7-6(5). She ultimately lost in the second set, 6-3. Anya Lamoreaux, in sixth singles, lost against Erin Richardson, 6-1, 6-4.
