Utah Lacrosse Falls At #5 Georgetown, 16-6

Mar 19, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Utah Lacrosse team took on the No. 5 Georgetown Hoyas in the Nation's Capital today, but unfortunately were not able to come away with the win, falling 16-6. Utah is 3-3 overall this season.

The Utes faced the No. 4 defense in the country with the Hoyas only allowing 8.50 goals per game, holding Utah to its lowest goal total of the season. Despite some sparks on offense in the third quarter with back-to-back goals, the Utes were unable to make up the difference against Georgetown, ultimately falling by 10.

GAME LEADERS
The Utes had four different players find the back of the net against the Hoyas, led by sophomore Jordan Hyde, who was able to score three goals. Hyde has scored two-or-more goals in all six games this season, and has scored at least one goal in 13 straight dating back to the 2021 season.

MJ McMahon, Josh Stout and Ruben Santana all scored goals today as well with Stout scoring his 55th career goal as a Ute. Tyler Bradbury led the Utes in assists with two, giving him sole possession of second all-time at Utah in career points (60).

Cole Brams finished with a team-high five ground balls with Samuel Cambere recording a team-best two caused turnovers. Zack Johns made his first start in goal for the Utes against the high-powered Hoyas, finishing the game with a season-high 12 saves, his third double-digit save game of his career.

GAME BREAKDOWN
After trailing 3-0 through the first half of the first quarter, the Utes were able to get on the board with 2:16 on the clock after McMahon pulled a spin move on a Hoya defender to get free for a shot. The sophomore's seventh goal of the season would make it a two-point game heading into the second quarter.

Georgetown would make it 4-1 early in the second quarter with the Utes continuing to put pressure on the Hoya goalkeeper, breaking through with 2:58 to go in the half. Hyde would put in his first goal of the game with an assist from Bradbury to cut the Georgetown lead to 4-2, but the Hoyas would answer with a 3-0 run to end the second quarter.

The Hoyas would extend their lead with a 5-0 run to start the third quarter with the Utes not scoring until the 6:59 mark. Stout and Hyde would get the Utes back on the board with two unanswered goals, but Georgetown would have a counter once again, scoring two more to end the quarter with a 14-4 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Santana found the back of the net for the fifth time this season while Hyde completed his hat trick at the 4:25 mark with his third goal of the game, but it wouldn't be enough to make up the deficit with Georgetown winning 16-6.
