Oregon Climbs into Top Five at Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon shot its best round of the tournament to finish fifth Tuesday at the 32nd Duck Invitational, played at Eugene Country Club.
 
The Ducks shot a 5-over 289 to move up from eighth to fifth in the final standings at 877. It was the Ducks' fourth top-five finish in their last five tournaments.
 
No. 8 Washington won the event at 833. Utah was second at 850, followed by No. 3 Arizona State and Oregon State tied at 869.
 
How it Happened: Greg Solhaug set the pace for the Ducks on Tuesday. He shot a 2-under 69 and finished tied for ninth overall at 2-over 215. Solhaug had six birdies and four bogeys in the final round.
 
The Ducks also counted a 72 from Nate Stember, a 73 by Owen Avrit and a 75 from Craig Ronne.
 
Avrit tied for 15th overall at 4-over 217. Stember and Eric Doyle, competing as an individual, tied for 35th at 223. Stember recovered nicely after an opening round 79 with back-to-back rounds of 72.

Notable: It was the second straight top-10 finish for Solhaug, who tied for fourth at the Bandon Dunes Championship two weeks ago. Avrit, who leads the Ducks in scoring average, earned his fifth top-20 finish of the season. Avrit was fourth for the tournament in par four scoring at minus-1. Will Stribling, competing in his first tournament as a Duck, improved each round, going from 82 to 76 to 73.
