USC Baseball Heads to First-Place Oregon, Hosts Seattle

THIS WEEK: The USC baseball team resumes Pac-12 play on the road when it heads to first-place Oregon for a three-game set starting on Friday. The Trojans then return home to host Seattle on Wednesday, March 30.

LAST WEEK: The Trojans hosted Cal last weekend, taking the opener before dropping the last two games. USC bounced back with a thrilling comeback win over Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, scoring five unanswered runs in the last two innings to beat the Titans 11-10. The Trojans got a two-run homer from Tyler Lozano in the seventh, then a game-tying, two-run homer from Garret Guillemette in the 8th and the game-winning RBI triple from Carson Wells in the 8th as well.
 
SERIES VS. OREGON: The Trojans lead the all-time series 31-23. The Ducks won two-of-three in Los Angeles last season, and prior to that, USC took two-of-three at home in 2019.
 
SERIES VS. SEATTLE: USC is 3-0 all-time against the Redhawks. The teams last played in 2020 at the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego, with the Trojans winning 6-2. USC and Seattle also played in the District 8 Playoffs in 1953 and 1954.

  • Tyresse Turner comes in riding a 14-game on-base streak and is second on the team and 9th in the Pac-12 with a .371 batting average. Turner is also the 3rd toughest player in the Pac-12 to strike out, going down on strikes every 11.7 at-bats. Turner's 8 stolen bases are 3rd most in the conference.
  • Charlie Hurley's 2.19 ERA is 7th best in the Pac-12. He picked up the wins in each of his first 3 collegiate starts, including tossing a career-high 6.0 innings in a win over No. 15 UCLA. Hurley suffered his first loss against Cal, despite only allowing 3 runs in 5.2 innings.
  • Carson Lambert's 2.05 ERA is 6th in the Pac-12 and his 10 appearances on the mound are 7th in the conference.
  • Tyler Lozano came into 2022 with 1 home run in his first 3 college seasons, but now leads USC and is 7th in the Pac-12 with 5 long balls this season. The Trojans are 4-1 when Lozano homers.
