Huskies Drop Series Opener Against No. 3 UCLA

SEATTLE – Washington dropped the series opener to No. 3 UCLA on Friday night at Husky Softball Stadium, 3-2. The Huskies move to 20-8 overall on the season and 1-3 in Pac-12 play.
 
UCLA struck early, putting three runs up in the top of the first. Baylee Klingler responded in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run out to left field, her 14th of the season, to cut the Bruins' lead to 3-1.
 
Kinsley Fiedler drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the fifth and advanced to second on a wild pitch, bringing up Klingler who hit an RBI single to right center, making it a one-run game at 3-2.
 
Gabbie Plain pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.
 
Washington and UCLA meet for game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is at 3 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium and airing on Pac-12 Network.

Baylee Klingler hit her 14th home run of the season to extend her Pac-12 leading stat. With the home run, Klingler moves into the Top 10 in career homers with 35.
 
Madison Huskey hit her seventh double of the season to move into third on the team.
 
Washington broke up a 20-plus inning shutout streak for UCLA pitcher Megan Faraimo.
 
Huskies have lost three games in a row for the first time since 2019.
