No. 12 Ducks Even Series

Mar 26, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – California got solo home runs from Acacia Anders, Sona Halajian and Tatum Anzaldo, but it wasn't enough as No. 12 Oregon evened the series with an 8-6 win on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium.

The Bears (21-11, 3-2 Pac-12) jumped out in front early before the Ducks (23-5, 3-2 Pac-12) rallied for the comeback win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears started right where they left off on Friday night in the series opener, scoring two runs in the top half of the first on blasts from Anders and Halajian. Oregon answered back quickly though, scoring three runs on five hits in the home half to lead 3-2 after one complete.

Oregon added to their lead in the second, scoring two runs off a hit and a Bear error to make it 5-2 heading to the third. Anzaldo got one back for Cal, hitting a laser shot that got over the wall in right center in a hurry. The third homer of the afternoon got the Bears within 5-3 after the third frame.

The Ducks added a run in the fourth and fifth to lead 7-3 after five, but Cal had an answer in the top of the sixth. Two straight hit batters and a walk loaded the bases before the third hit by pitch of the frame made it a three-run game. A fielder's choice plated the Bears' second run of the inning and Sophie Medellin came through with a pinch-hit RBI single up the middle to pull Cal within 7-6.

Oregon was able to add insurance in the bottom of the frame and Cal got a Halajian double in the seventh, but she was left on.
