No. 1 UCLA Pulls Off Sweep at No. 17 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 1 UCLA (18-0) remained undefeated on the year with a 5-0 sweep at No. 17 Arizona (10-5) in the final day of competition at the Pac-12 South Invitational at Bear Down Beach. UCLA improved to 10-2 all-time against the Wildcats with its sixth-straight win over Arizona.

Lea Monkhouse and Rileigh Powers got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win over the Wildcats' Sarah Blacker and Maja Kaiser, 21-18, 21-16, on court two.

Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle put UCLA up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court one, 21-17, 23-21, over Arizona's Alex Parkhurst and Alana Rennie.

Jaden Whitmarsh and Devon Newberry clinched the dual victory on court three with a straight-set win over Jasmine Safar and Dilara Gedikoglu, 26-24, 21-18.

Then freshman Jessie Smith and graduate transfer Marlie Monserez took down the WIldcats' Hope Shannon and Annie Kost on court five, 14-21, 21-15, 15-2, to put UCLA up 4-0.

UCLA completed the sweep on court four where the Bruins' undefeated (17-0) freshman pair of Sophie Moore and Natalie Myszkowski rallied to beat Arizona's Abby Russell and Dana Parker in a three-set thriller, 17-21, 21-14, 15-12.

The Bruins return to action on Thursday, March 31 when they host No. 2 TCU at Mapes Beach at 2:30 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks. The Bruins will conclude the day with No. 9 Hawai'i at 4:30 p.m. PT, also on the Pac-12 Networks.
