Mar 29, 2022

BERKELEY – California women's tennis freshman Katja Wiersholm was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday, the Conference office announced, for her performance in the No. 14 Golden Bears' 4-3 win over No. 17 USC on Saturday.

This is the first Pac-12 honor for Wiersholm and the second of the season for Cal. Fellow Cal freshman Jessica Alsola earned the honor in January.

Against the Trojans, the 29th-ranked Wiersholm and Alsola defeated the 64th-ranked Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper, 6-3, on court one to clinch the doubles point for the Bears. In singles, the 122nd-ranked Wiersholm defeated USC's 77th-ranked Snow Han, 6-4, 6-3, on court three, as the Bears marched toward victory.

A product of Kirkland, Washington, Wiersholm has records of 17-1 in singles and 12-2 in doubles in her first semester of collegiate tennis.

Cal – which improved to 11-5 with a 4-3 victory over No. 5 Pepperdine on Tuesday – next plays at No. 32 Arizona State on Friday and at No. 48 Arizona on Saturday.
