SAN FRANCISCO – Alexander Hoogmartens of the UCLA men's tennis team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for March 21-27, the conference announced Tuesday.
Freshman Hoogmartens was unbeaten in the Bruins' first two matches of Pac-12 play, helping them earn a home split with California and Stanford.
In his first-career appearances on the top singles court, Hoogmartens defeated No. 102 Yuta Kikuchi of the Golden Bears, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, and No. 2 Arthur Fery of the Cardinal, 6-3, 6-1. Hoogmartens also teamed with Bryce Pereira to beat Tomas Kopczynski and Timothy Sah of Stanford by a 6-3 score on the second court, giving UCLA the doubles point.
