Cal Improves On Day Two In Napa

NAPA, CALIFORNIA – After two days at the Silverado Showdown, the Cal women's golf team sits in 15th place after receiving a season-best tying round from Tzu-Yi Chang.
 
The Bears shot four shots better on Tuesday than they did in Monday's first round as they recorded a team score of 304. Cal recorded a 16-over as a team heading into the final round. Cal holds a three-shot lead over No. 32 BYU and are within 10 strokes of six teams in a talented field featuring 12 ranked teams, and five top-15 squads, setting up an exciting conclusion on Wednesday.
 
The Bears started on the tenth hole on Tuesday morning at the Silverado Resort and Chang started strongly as she was 1-under through the first seven holes. She continued that pace throughout the team as she hit par or better on 16 holes and finished with a par score of 72 on the day, tying her best round of the season. In the process, Chang climbed 26 spots on the leaderboard and now sits in a tie for 33rd with a 6-over 150 across two rounds.
 
Chang is tied with teammate Elena Arias, who continued her fine play on Tuesday. After shooting a 4-over 76 on Monday, Arias followed it up with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Arias played the first nine to a +1 score as she recorded eight straight pars to conclude the first nine. She followed with a +1 on the second nine as she recorded a birdie on the second hole.
 
Katherine Zhu was 1-under through the first nine as she birdied on holes 13 and 15 and was climbing the leaderboard. However, she did not have the same success on the back nine, scoring 9-over and finishing the day 8-over.
 
Cristina Ochoa shot 6-over 78, recording a birdie on the 17th hole. Mika Jin rounded out the Cal lineup with a 8-over 80. Ochoa is tied for 66th as she is +12 across two rounds. Zhu and Jin are both tied for 73rd and are +13 through two rounds.

The third and final round of the Silverado Showdown begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning from the Silverado Resort in Napa.
