USC Beach Volleyball's Delaynie Maple, Julia Scoles Picked for Pac-12 Pair of the Week

Apr 5, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO Calif.  USC beach volleyball sophomore Delaynie Maple (San Diego, Calif.) and graduate Julia Scoles (Mooresville, N.C.) were named the Pac-12's Pair of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3, the Conference announced on Tuesday, April 5.

The duo went 4-0 at the No. 3 position and helped the third-ranked Trojans complete a 4-0 sweep of opponents at the UCLA Invitational on Manhattan Beach. Most impressively, Maple-Scoles improved to 20-0 on the season to become the first Trojan pair to reach the 20-win mark and have dropped just three sets all spring.

Maple and Scoles started the weekend with a straight-set win over sixth-ranked LSU's Melia Lindner and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope, 21-18, 21-17. They then fought back after dropping their first set against ninth-ranked Hawai'i's Anna Maidment and Sofia Russo to win, 19-21, 21-11, 15-13. The tandem produced a 21-11, 21-19 win over Alexis Fillipone and Hailey Hamlett to deliver the clinching point in the Trojans' 4-1 win over No. 2-ranked TCU. Maples and Scoles completed the weekend with a three-set win, 22-24, 23-21, 15-10 over No. 15 Florida International's Rachele Mancinelli and Emily Meyer.

Maple receives her first-career Pac-12 Pair of the Week award. Scoles was chosen for the second time after being named for the award last season when partnered with Hailey Harward (March 15, 2021). It is the 24th time that a USC pair has been chosen for the award; the most all-time among Pac-12 schools.

The No. 1-ranked Women of Troy (19-1) have won 18 straight duals (the fourth longest streak in program history) and carry that streak into a four-match weekend at the Pac-12 North Invitational in Stanford, Calif. USC takes on ninth-ranked host Stanford (13-6) on Saturday morning (April 9) and then meets 12th-ranked California (19-6) later that afternoon. On Sunday (April 10), the Trojans face No. 17 Arizona (14-5) and then conclude the weekend against Oregon (8-11). Duals against Stanford and Arizona will be shown live on Pac-12 Bay Area.
