#16 ASU Softball On 15-Game Win Streak, Latest Win Over #14 Oregon

Apr 8, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – For the 15th game in a row, Sun Devil softball is victorious, with their latest victim being Oregon in a 9-3 seven inning game Friday night. No. 16 Arizona State (26-5, 7-0 Pac-12) had three home runs in eight hits against the No. 14 Ducks (24-9, 4-6 Pac-12).

Jazmyn Rollin was a highlight of the game, as she went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs.

The Sun Devils racked five hits within the first two innings, two of them being home runs courtesy of Alynah Torres and one from Rollin. Every batter in the starting lineup reached base today, showcasing the Sun Devils patience and aggressiveness at the plate.

Freshman pitcher Mac Morgan was handed the start and threw five innings, keeping the Ducks off balance at the plate, going 1-5 with runners in scoring position. Morgan picked up her team-leading 13th win of the season, winning in her last 11 appearances in the circle.

Marissa Schuld came in for the last two innings to secure the win for the Sun Devils.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Arizona State 9, Oregon 3

  • Torres got the Sun Devils on the board early with a leadoff home run in the first inning, her fifth of the season.
  • Morgan received help early in the game from her battery mate, Jessica Puk, throwing out the leadoff hitter, Alle Bunker, when she attempted to steal second.
  • Rollins sent her team leading 11th home run over the right field fence to push the lead to 2-0 to start off the second.
  • Following the homer, the hitting spree continued for the maroon and gold as Emily Cazares went to right field with a single. Makenna Harper then singled in the opposite direction, moving Cazares to second. Jessica Puk would reach base via sac-bunt that ended as a fielder's choice when the Oregon pitcher was unable to make a defensive decision, advancing ASU around the bases. With bases loaded in the second inning, Savannah Price lined a single to left field giving the Sun Devils a 3-0 lead.
  • The Sun Devils added two more runs with the bases loaded. Yanni Acuña was hit by a pitch and Cyd Sanders walked, all three would be stranded on base.
  • Morgan made quick work of the Ducks in the third inning, throwing only nine pitches.
  • In the fourth, Rollin picked up her second RBI of the night on a double to left center, pushing the Sun Devils lead to six. She later scored off of an Emily Cazares single, making the score 7-0.
  • The Sun Devils would add another run off an error making the lead 8-0, giving ASU the opportunity to run-rule Oregon.
  • The Ducks weren't ready to be run-ruled as they hit two home runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead down to 8-3. Morgan would close out the frame, however this would be the final time fans saw her as Schuld was brought in to finish the job.
  • In the sixth inning Rollin launched her second bomb of the day, this time an opposite field shot, sealing the game's final score 9-3.
