Bears Sweep At Lake Las Vegas

HENDERSON, NV – The Cal women's rowing team had a tremendous showing on the opening day of the Pac-12 Challenge at Lake Las Vegas on Saturday morning. The Bears sent four boats out with all four boats taking first in their event.

"Today was a solid first day," said assistant coach Adrienne Martelli. "Every boat has something that they're excited to work on for tomorrow and there are plenty of positive takeaways from each boat's race. Jim Anderson and the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club have done a great job of hosting so many fast teams from all over the country."

The Bears opened the day of racing with a pair of strong showings in the varsity four races. Cal's 2V4+ finished first by a wide margin, winning with a time of 7:15.17, over eight seconds faster than runner-up Oregon State.  In the V4+ race, Cal once again had a lengthy lead, winning with a time of 7:07.77, seven seconds ahead of Oregon State.

Later in the morning Bears' 2V8+ took to the water and finished with a time of 6:25.17. Once again, defeating Oregon State, who finished that race in second with a time of 6:32.32. Cal's V8+ made it a clean sweep, finishing first in its race with a time of 6:23.35.

Cal returns to the water for one more day of racing at Lake Las Vegas starting at 8:20 a.m.
