Ducks Fall at No. 18 USC

Apr 10, 2022

LOS ANGELES – Oregon dropped a close doubles point before falling in the first three singles matches to finish in a 4-0 loss at No. 18 USC in the regular season finale Sunday.

How It Happened: The Ducks (14-7, 5-5 Pac-12) battled in the doubles point but ultimately started the match down 1-0 after losing the opening point. After a 6-1 loss at the No. 2 spot, the matches at No. 1 and 3 doubles both sat tied at 5-5, before Ares Teixido Garcia and Karin Young dropped the final two games to give USC a 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.

USC (15-10, 6-3 Pac-12) carried that momentum into singles, as Oregon fell in the first set at all six spots to dig an even deeper hole. The Ducks dropped matches at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles to give the Trojans the match victory. Sophie Luescher and Myah Petchey each battled in unfinished matches at the top two spots, as Luescher's match sat at 6-4, 4-4 against No. 42 Salma Ewing and Petchey's was at 6-4, 3-2 against No. 4 Eryn Cayetano.
