No. 18 USC Women of Troy Record Pair of Victories at Marks Stadium

The No. 18 USC women's tennis team recorded back-to-back victories in a doubleheader at Marks Stadium today. The Trojans notched a 4-0 win over Oregon and 4-2 win over Cal Poly to improve to 16-10 (6-3). 
 
The Trojans got to work in doubles action against Pac-12 rival Oregon, as Naomi Cheong and Grace Piper swiftly defeated Mulville/Petchey (UO) 6-1 on court two. Shortly thereafter, USC's Danielle Willson and Snow Han battled to defeat the duck duo of Teixido/Young 7-5 on court three. With USC claiming the doubles point, match play was suspended on center court with Eryn Cayetano and Salma Ewing down 5-6. 

The Women of Troy carried the momentum from doubles  and kept their foot on the gas as they moved into singles play, claiming first sets on all six courts. USC's Snow Han was first to put a point on the board for the Trojans, defeating Oregon's Ares Teixido Garcia 6-3, 6-3 on court three. Just a few moments later, both Grace Piper and No. 115 Naomi Cheong won their matches, giving USC two additional points to clinch the match. First, Grace Piper downed Oregon's Karin Young 6-1, 6-2 on court four before No. 115 Naomi Cheong would clinch the match for USC with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court five. With the match clinched, play was suspended with USC leading on all three remaining courts. 

A short while later, USC took to the courts to face Cal Poly, ultimately recording a 4-2 win over the Mustangs.  The Women of Troy, with a fresh afternoon lineup, struggled during doubles play, dropping the point to the Mustangs. Cal Poly struck first as Ackerman/Bhunu defeated Naomi Cheong and Grace Piper 6-4 on center court. Trojans Sloane Morra and McKenna Koenig then beat Cal Poly's Bente/P. Dunkle 7-5 on court three to shift the focus to court two. USC's Snow Han and Danielle Willson would eventually fall 7-6(3) to D. Dunkle/LeMette. With the doubles point going to the Mustangs, USC would have to fight back during singles play to make up the one-point deficit. 

During singles play, freshman Leyden Games handled business early, downing Mustang Peyton Dunkle 6-2, 6-1 on court six to even the score. Next up, No. 82 Snow Han recorded her 30th singles win of the season, defeating Cal Poly's Laura Bente 6-0, 6-4 on court two. Over on court one, USC's No. 42 Salma Ewing downed Kim Bhunu (CP) 6-2, 6-4 to extend the Trojans lead and put them within one point of victory. Cal Poly fought back to pick up their second point of the day, with Delanie Dunkle defeating Trojan Isabelle Lee 6-4, 6-3 on court five. In true Fight On fashion, sophomore McKenna Koenig clinched the match for USC, downing Mustang Emily Ackerman 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court four. The remaining match on court three was abandoned. 

Next up, USC will host crosstown rival UCLA on Friday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. for senior day.
