No. 20 Cassone Upsets No. 6 Chidekh in ASU’s 4-3 Win

Apr 15, 2022

SEATTLE - Arizona State men's tennis kicked off their final regular season road trip with a 4-3 win over Washington Friday night in Seattle. No. 20 Murphy Cassone picked up his eighth consecutive singles victory and yet another top-10 upset, and No. 125 Fabien Salle & Christian Lerby both got back in the win column too. ASU closes out the road swing Sunday at noon against Oregon.

ASU got it going by claiming the doubles point. Nicola Cigna/Fabien Salle initially dropped court three, but a 1-2 rally from Jacob Bullard/Cassone (6-4) and Lerby/George Stoupe (7-6(7)) put the Devils ahead 1-0.

Singles was a fight all the way. Washington went ahead 2-1 thanks to wins at No. 3 and 5 over Bullard and Cigna before Lerby played to a 7-5, 6-4 win to tie the match at 2-2. Cassone then gave ASU the advantage with his upset victory on the top court over No. 6 Clement Chidekh. It was 3-3 with Stoupe's loss at No. 4, but Salle clinched the day with a won at No. 2
