A Texas Split

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 9 Stanford finished its first day at the TCU Invitational Friday, splitting the day's duals with a 5-0 defeat of Houston Baptist and a tough 3-2 loss to No. 2 TCU. 

Stanford started the day with its fourth consecutive win, beating Houston Baptist 5-0. Senior Maddie Dailey earned her 50th career win alongside partner sophomore Maya Harvey, the second member of the Cardinal to enter the 50-win club this season. Senior Charlie Ekstrom and junior Maddi Kriz alongside sophomores Xolani Hodel and Kate Reilly earned their dual match points with straight-set wins. 

An incredible effort from the Cardinal came up just short of upsetting the No. 2 team in the nation as Stanford closed the day with a 3-2 loss at the hands of host TCU. Dailey and Harvey won its second straight-set win in a row on court five, while Hodel and Reilly upset TCU's Tania Moreno and Sutton MacTavish at the ones position 23-21, 21-17. Ekstrom and Kriz fought back from a first-set loss to keep the Cardinal in the match with the dual's score tied at two-all, but fell in the final points of the third set to give TCU the victory. 

Stanford continues its time in Fort Worth tomorrow with two early morning matches, taking on No. 16 Pepperdine at 5:30 a.m. PT and Missouri State at 7:30 a.m. PT.
