Apr 19, 2022

BERKELEY – California women's tennis junior Haley Giavara earned the Pac-12 Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced Tuesday, for her play in the Golden Bears' April 16 victory over Stanford that clinched the Pac-12 regular-season title and the top seed in this week's Pac-12 Championship for the Bears.

This is the second Pac-12 weekly award for Giavara and the third for the Bears this season, including honors for Jessica Alsola in January and Katja Wiersholm in March.

Giavara, ranked 97th in singles, defeated the Cardinal's 19th-ranked Connie Ma, 6-1, 6-0, and partnered with Hannah Viller Moeller to beat Sara Choy and Alexandra Yepifanova, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point. With those wins, the San Diego product improved her singles record to 13-13 and her doubles record to 18-7.

Giavara and the top-seeded Bears start play in the conference tournament on Thursday at 12 p.m. in Ojai, where they take on ninth-seeded Utah.
