Twelve Bears Named To MPSF All-Academic Team

Apr 20, 2022

BERKELEY – After placing ninth as a team and sending seven qualifiers to the final round at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships last weekend, California men's gymnastics received more honors this week as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced its All-Academic team. 12 Cal gymnasts made the list in 2022, over twice as many as last year.

The Bears who earned their second MPSF All-Academic nod this year are Kyle Abe, Aidan Giusti, Will Lavanakul, Yu-Chen Lee and Noah Sano, while the first-timers include Collin Cunane, Aidan Li, Noah Newfeld, Seth Ornelas, David Rauchwerger, Chris Scales and Jelani Sweet. Sweet's GPA of 3.615 leads the team.

To qualify for the MPSF All-Academic team, each gymnast must have earned a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average and must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the current season, as well as needing to have competed in 50 percent of the squad's contests.
