UCLA Finishes 5th at El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. – Freshmen Pablo Ereño Perez and Omar Morales led the UCLA men's golf team to a fifth-place finish (-1, 863) at the El Macero Classic on Friday. The Bruins were one of five teams in the 14-team field to finish under par.
 
Ereño Perez and Morales recorded the first top-10 finishes of their careers, tying for seventh at 4-under 212.
 
Fresno State was the tournament champion at 7-under 857. UC Davis' Thomas Hutchison won the individual crown at 8-under 208.
 
Ereño Perez shot an even-par 72 and 1-under 71 in the second and third rounds on the way to securing his third under-par tournament finish of the season (-5, 205 at The Goodwin; -8, 208 at the Amer Ari Invitational). Ereño Perez recorded a birdie on the front nine and an eagle on the back nine in his final round.
 
Morales tied for the lowest round of his career on day three with a 3-under 69 (-2, 69 in RD 2 at Thunderbird Collegiate). Morales sunk five birdies in his final round of the El Macero Classic.
 
Graduate Eddy Lai recorded his lowest 18-hole score of the season and UCLA's lowest round of the day with a bogey-free, 4-under 68 in round three. Lai tied for 12th at 3-under 213.
 
Freshman Alvaro Muller tied for 61st at 10-over 226. Evan Chien tied for 82nd at 20-over 236.
 
The Bruins begin postseason action next week at the Pac-12 Championships held from April 25-27.
