May 9, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS - The Cardinal learned its first round opponent of the NCAA Tournament will be Jacksonville University on Sunday evening during the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament Selection Show. The two teams will face off in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida on Friday, May 13 at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Stanford earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after securing the Pac-12 Tournament title on Saturday by defeating ASU. The Dolphins also earned an automatic berth to the national competition by winning their fifth consecutive ASUN tournament over the weekend.

This will be the Cardinal's 11th overall appearance and fourth consecutive season culminating with NCAA Tournament play. Stanford has advanced from the first round twice, defeating Notre Dame in 2013 before falling to Northwestern and taking down James Madison in 2016 before falling to USC.

Stanford is one of two Pac-12 teams to make the tournament this year as the Pac-12 champions are joined by conference rival USC. ASU fell just short of making it three teams from the Pac-12 going dancing and were named one of the first four teams out.

This matchup marks the first meeting between Jacksonville and Stanford in program history, however the Cardinal do have a connection to the Dolphins. First-year defensive coordinator Brittney Orashen came to The Farm from Jacksonville after spending six seasons on staff, including the 2020-21 season as the associate head coach.
