Perez Selected UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week

May 10, 2022

LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior Briana Perez of the softball team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for May 3 – May 9.

Perez became UCLA's all-time runs scored leader in game two of UCLA's series at Arizona State, surpassing Natasha Watley for the crown with 253 runs. She blew game two wide open in the fourth inning with a three-run home run – her 10th longball of the season – to put the Bruins up 7-3.

Perez finished the weekend 6-for-11 (.545) with three RBI and three runs. She also made a highlight reel jumping grab at shortstop in the sixth inning of game two to save Megan Faraimo from allowing a leadoff base hit. The Martinez, Calif., native saw her batting average jump from .388 before the series to a team-best .400.

It's the second-career Student-Athlete of the Week award for Perez and her first of the season.
