The Series
The Washington Huskies welcome the University of Northern Colorado Bears to Husky Ballpark this weekend for a four-game series with a rare Thursday start. With a spot in next week's Pac-12 Tournament down in Arizona already confirmed, Husky coaches have some flexibility with their game planning. Earning Ws is still the priority though. Their eight game winning streak is the fourth-best in the country, plus a sweep would give the Huskies a 30-win season. Most significantly however, is the fact that the Huskies will want to finish strong and ride that momentum into the post-season tournament. Also note that the final game on Saturday is both Senior Day and Superhero Day for kids. Feel free to come in costume!

How To Follow
All four games will be broadcast on Pac-12 Washington (https://gohski.es/2opX3eG). Live stats will be available via GoHuskies.com and fans can also track the action on Twitter (@UW_Baseball).

Matchup History
The Dawgs are 5-0 against the Bears since 2014, including home wins in both 2014 and 2016. In 2019, Seattle snow forced a move to an alternate, neutral site in Arizona where the Huskies earned the sweep.

Scouting The Huskies
Head coach Lindsay Meggs has a re-loaded roster for 2022, featuring 23 newcomers, including 10 JUCO transfers, 10 true freshmen, and three four-year college transfers.

Husky pitchers are fourth in the conference with a 4.38 team ERA. Thursday's game will feature RHP Jared Engman starting his fourteenth game. He's been lights out this past month with a 1.16 ERA and 20 strikeouts to just two walks! LHP Adam Bloebaum gets his fifth start in game one on Saturday, while RHP Calvin Kirchoff starts his thirteen later in the day. Sunday's starter is TBD. Out of the bullpen, RHP Stefan Raeth is fifth in the Pac-12 with a 3.03 ERA and third in strikeouts with 84 over 62.1 innings. RHP Ryan Velazquez has been solid as well, holding opponents to just two runs for a 1.32 ERA over the last two weeks (13.2 innings).

1B Will Simpson leads multiple team offensive categories, including runs (37), doubles (14), home runs (11), RBIs (41), slugging percentage (.538), and OPS (.908). Batting .315 in 184 at bats, C Johnny Tincher leads the team among regular starters, while CF McKay Barney sets the team mark in hits with 61 (including four last game).

Scouting The Bears
Head Coach Carl Iwasaki is in his ninth season with the Bears. His teams have qualified for seven postseason tournament appearances including four consecutive WAC Tournaments in Mesa, Arizona (UNC joined the Summit League in 2022).

The Bears have struggled thus far on the mound in their new league where opponents are batting .334 against them. This has attributed to a team ERA of 8.18.

Offensively the Bears fare much better sitting third in the conference batting .273. They are second in hits with 428 and third in OB% with .362. INF Shaydon Kubo leads the team in most categories, including BA (.317), OPS (.892), RBIs (37), and SLG% (.519). OF/LHP Jake King leads the team in OB% (.400) due in large part to also topping the list in walks (28).
