Capalbo and Espin Busleiman Withdraw From NCAA Doubles Championships

May 20, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's tennis season ended after the No. 27 doubles team of Franco Capalbo, and Geronimo Espin Busleiman withdrew from the NCAA Men's Tennis Doubles Championships.

"We wish the circumstances were different and Geronimo and Franco could compete at the NCAAs, however, the health and well-being of our student-athletes remain our highest priority," remarked head coach Roeland Brateanu. "It's an abrupt ending to an otherwise excellent year, and I'm very proud of them, as well as the entire team."

Capalbo and Espin Busleiman are the first Utah duo since Nick Coutts, and Zach Ganger in 2006 to qualified for the NCAA Doubles National Championships.

The duo ranked as high as 15 in the ITA Rankings this season and were No. 27 in the latest poll. This spring, Capalbo and Espin Busleiman were 19-2 as a doubles team and are 20-4, including the fall slate. The duo played in the ITA All-American Championships double draw this fall.

The Utes finished the season with the second 20-win season in program history and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships. This is only the second time in school history that Utah went to the second round of the NCAA Championships.
