URBANA, Ill. –The California men's tennis pair of Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck lost in Wednesday's NCAA Doubles Championship round of 16 to end the season for the Golden Bears. The 28th-ranked Cal duo fell to VCU's 33rd-ranked Charles and Maxence Bertimon, 7-6(5), 6-4.

The match started outside at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The Bears led, 3-2 in the first set, at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex. But then bad weather hit Urbana, forcing the match to move indoors at the Atkins Tennis Center.

The Bears ended the season with a 17-10 record.

"It was a very solid ending to a rollercoaster season," said Kris Kwinta, Cal's Peter Wright Director of Men's Tennis. "The boys played their hearts out here in Illinois and competed like true Bears! We're richer in new experiences, and I am excited for what lies ahead of this team. Go Bears!"
