UCLA Punches Its Ticket to OKC

LOS ANGELES – The No. 5 seed UCLA softball team punched its ticket to a seventh-straight Women's College World Series with an 8-2 victory over Duke at Easton Stadium Saturday night.
 
A two-double, three-RBI performance by Delanie Wisz highlighted the Bruins' (48-8) 12-hit night. For the second game in a row, Wisz knocked in the go-ahead run with a double to center field to score Kelli Godin in the fifth inning.
 
Two innings later, Wisz stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the final at-bat of her career at Easton Stadium. Wisz pounded another double off the top of the center field wall to score two big insurance runs, stretching the lead to 5-2.
 
UCLA went on to post five total runs in the seventh inning
 
Holly Azevedo went four innings and struck out four on the way to picking up her 20th win of the season. Azevedo (20-2) and Megan Faraimo (22-4) are the first 20-win Bruin duo since 2002 when Keira Goerl and Amanda Freed combined for 53 victories.

Savannah Pola put the Bruins on the board with a sacrifice fly into center field in the second inning. Two innings later, Maya Brady launched her first home run of the postseason to opposite field to make it 2-0.
 
Duke (44-11) answered with a home run of its own off the bat of Caroline Jacobsen in the bottom half of the fourth.
 
Faraimo, who entered in relief in the fifth, went on to throw three innings of shutout relief and strikeout seven Blue Devil hitters while allowing just two hits. Faraimo would stretch her single-season saves record to seven.

Duke had an opportunity to tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth with runners on the corners. After two strikeouts from Megan Faraimo, Delanie Wisz teamed up with Anna Vines to throw out a runner attempting to steal second base.

UCLA will face Texas in the first game of the Women's College World Series. Game time and television details will be announced at a later date.
