Petersen Named Most Impactful Assistant Coaches By Silver Wave Media

SALT LAKE CITY - Silver Waves Media announced the most impactful High Major Assistant Coaches in the NCAA Division I women's basketball, and associate head coach Gavin Petersen was one of 50 assistants on the list. 
 
Head Coaches are only as strong as the people they surround themselves with, and it is no coincidence that the most successful programs also have some of the greatest assistant coaches in the game. The coaches must be current assistants for high major Division I programs to be considered for this list. 
 
These coaches are considered the to be some of the most impactful in the country, and they are all poised to take a head coaching position in the future should they choose, whether their first or a return to a lead role. After consulting with a panel of basketball professionals, we present: The Most Impactful High Major Assistant Coaches in DI Women's Basketball.

Petersen is a 19-year veteran of NCAA Division I coaching and is entering his eighth season as an assistant coach for the Utes. Petersen works mainly with post players while coordinating Utah's defense, and he has helped lead Utah to three postseason runs in his six years there. During the 2021-22 season, he helped the Utes to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011. 
 
He also helped guide the Utes to two 18-win seasons, a 20-win season, and their first AP Poll ranking since 2008. Before joining the staff at Utah, Petersen spent two seasons as an assistant at the University of the Pacific, where he helped lead the Tigers to consecutive WNIT appearances. Petersen also served as an assistant coach at Hawaii and Idaho, where he helped eight teams reach the postseason.
