Husky Duo Set To Compete With Team USA At Canada Cup

SEATTLE – UW softball infielder Baylee Klingler and outfielder Sami Reynolds are set to compete with the USA National Team this week for the 2022 Canada Cup. Head coach Heather Tarr will lead the National Team this summer.
The Canada Cup runs from June 20-26 in Surrey, British Columbia and features 12 teams from 10 different countries. The USA will kick off pool play on Monday at 8:30 p.m. PT against Korea. Team USA will compete in the Red Pool that features, Aussie Spirit, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, T.C. Colorado and Korea. At the conclusion of pool play, the top four teams from each pool will advance to the Playoff Round with the final two teams playing in the Canada Cup gold medal game on Sunday, June 26.
Tarr enters her first summer at the helm for the Red, White and Bule. Tarr recently served as an assistant coach for Team USA on their way to a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her coaching staff includes assistant coaches Cindy Ball-Malone (head coach at UCF), Brian Kolze (head coach at Pacific), and Jimmy Kolaitis (assistant coach at Arizona State).
Klingler, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year, finished the season leading the conference in batting average (.434), home runs (24) and RBI (71) – all three ranked in the Top 15 in the nation. In addition, Klingler was one of three finalists for USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year and a Honda Award for Softball finalist.
Reynolds earned Second Team All-Pac-12 honors after starting in 50 games for the Huskies after batting .320 with 49 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs and 23 RBI. Her 11 stolen bases lead the team.
Later this summer Tarr will lead the National Team to the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Ala., July 9-13. The World Games roster will include Reynolds and former Husky great, Ali Aguilar. Reynolds and Klingler will also compete with the Team USA at the 2022 Japan All-Star Series that runs from August 6 to 8 in Fukushima, Japan.
