Yanni Acuña and Bella Loomis Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team

Jun 20, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State softball players Bella Loomis and Yannira Acuña were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Sun Devils become the 20th and 21st softball players in Maroon and Gold history to receive such honor. Vanguard University softball head coach, Amber Freeman (First Team) was the last Sun Devil recognized for an Academic All-America Team back in 2015.

The pair was also named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District® Third Team, selected by CoSIDA, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Loomis, a graduate senior, finished with a 4.00 GPA (Psychology) and Acuña, a senior, had a 3.64 GPA (Liberal Studies). The Sun Devils are two of four Pac-12 athletes announced to the Third Team.

They join ASU men's swimmer Grant House and women's volleyball player Iman Isanovic as the four Sun Devils recognized as Academic All-Americans in the 2021-22 season.
