Three Selected on Day Two

STANFORD, Calif. – A trio of Stanford players were selected on the second day of the 2022 MLB Draft, with junior catcher Kody Huff coming off the board first in the seventh round (206th overall) after being drafted by the Colorado Rockies.

Brett Barrera was the eighth-round selection of the New York Yankees (250th overall), while Adam Crampton was taken just seven picks later with the first selection of the ninth round by the Baltimore Orioles.

With Brock Jones' selection in the second round (65th overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, Stanford had four players drafted in the first 10 rounds of this year's draft – running its total to 33 players selected in the first 10 rounds since 2011.

Huff hit .315 with 52 runs scored, a team-best 21 doubles, 13 homers and 51 RBIs while starting 64 of Stanford's 65 games behind the plate this year. An All-Pac-12 first team selection, Huff hit .333 with nine runs scored, two doubles, two homers and 10 RBIs in the postseason. Over his three years on The Farm, Huff batted .284 with 33 doubles, a triple and 18 homers to drive in 88 runs.

Barrera turned in a breakout junior season for the Cardinal in 2022, garnering ABCA All-Region second team honors and a spot on the second-team All-America list according to College Baseball Foundation. The All-Pac-12 first team pick hit .372 in the regular season to claim the Pac-12 batting crown. The native of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. led the team in batting average (.351) and was second in triples (3) and doubles (19) while hitting safely in 52 of his 63 games with an at bat this year. Terrorizing Pac-12 pitching, Barrera hit .372 with 29 runs scored, 11 doubles, a triple, five homers and 28 RBIs in Pac-12 play. One of the most consistent hitters throughout the year, Barrera posted a team-best 29 multi-hit games.

The 2022 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Crampton hit .316 with 34 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, a homer and 40 RBIs while starting all 65 games for the Cardinal at shortstop. A threat on the basepaths, Crampton swiped 11 bags in as many attempts this year. Catching fire down the stretch, the sure-handed infielder batted .424 (14 for 33) with four runs scored, three doubles, a triple and seven RBIs in the postseason.

The 2022 MLB Draft concludes Tuesday with rounds 11-20. The first selection on day three is set to be made by the Baltimore Orioles at 11 a.m. PT.
