Louser, Lasco Lead Charge On Day Four In Irvine

Jason Louser was Cal's top finisher on Friday at the Phillips 66 National Championships, placing fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke.

IRVINE, Calif. – Top-five finishes by a pair of Golden Bears highlighted California's performances on the penultimate day of the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships Friday at William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center.
 
Rising senior Jason Louser placed fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking 1:00.30, while rising junior Destin Lasco was 54.40 in the 100m backstroke for a fifth-place finish. Louser shaved 0.53 seconds off of his 100m breast prelims time, which earned him the fourth seed in the A final. Lasco was slightly slower than his 54.31 in the 100m back prelims.
 
Sebastian Somerset earned 14th overall in the 100m back with a 55.47 in the B final (55.16 in prelims).
 
Cal's fourth finalist of the night was Gabriel Jett, who placed 11th overall in the 400m freestyle with a 3:52.16 in the B final, more than a second faster than his prelims time of 3:53.60. Incoming graduate transfer Patrick Callan qualified as the eighth seed in the 400m free A final with a 3:52.10 in prelims, but did not swim in the evening session.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will have swimmers in the three final events – 200m individual medley, 50m free and 800m free – of the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships on Saturday. Prelims beginning at 9 a.m. PT and finals at 5 p.m. PT. Finals will be broadcast live on Olympic Channel, while prelims can be streamed on http://www.usaswimming.org/watch.
