Alexy Medals To Close Out Phillips 66 Nationals

Jack Alexy wrapped up the Phillips 66 National Championships with a bronze-medal finish in the 50-meter freestyle on Saturday.

IRVINE, Calif. – California rising sophomore Jack Alexy ended the 2022 Phillips 66 National Championships in strong fashion Saturday, claiming the bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle at William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center. Alexy's medal was the third earned by a Golden Bear at the five-day meet, adding to a pair won by fellow rising sophomore Gabriel Jett in the 200m butterfly (gold) and the 100m fly (bronze).
 
After taking 28th in the 100m free on Tuesday, Alexy made sure the five-day meet concluded on a higher note Saturday. The Mendham, New Jersey, native entered the 50m free A final as the fifth seed after a 22.31 effort in prelims, and lowered that time to 22.18 to garner a podium spot. Alexy was joined in the A final by Matthew Jensen, to placed sixth in 22.38.
 
Rising junior Destin Lasco wrapped up a steady week in Irvine with a sixth-place finish in the 200m individual medley, touching the wall in 2:00.27. Another pair of busy Bears, Gabriel Jett and Jason Louser, placed 12th and 16th in the 200m IM with respective finishes of 2:01.56 and 2:04.09 in the B final.
 
Incoming freshman Matthew Chai (8:07.97) and rising junior Jack Meehan (8:14.01) were 20th and 25th in the 800m free.
