Eight Huskies Named To U.S. Team For 2022 World Championships

Aug 13, 2022

A total of eight Washington alumni will travel to the 2022 World Rowing Championships later this month in Prague as members of the United States National Team.

Six Huskies will row for the U.S. in four different race categories, while another two will serve as alternates. The regatta will be held in the Czech Republic Sept. 18-25.

Here are the Huskies who have made the U.S. team:

Men's Single Sculls (M1x): Ben Davison '18
Women's Four (W4-): Teal Cohen '21
Women's Eight (W8+): Jessica Thoennes '18
Men's Eight (M8+): Chris Carlson '19, Andrew Gaard '19 & Pieter Quinton '21
Alternates: Brooke Mooney '18 & Ezra Carlson '16

Of the eight Huskies listed, all but Cohen have previously competed with the U.S. senior team. Cohen, who wrapped up her college career this past spring, has rowed for her country at the Under 23 level, winning both gold in the eight and silver in the four at 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

Davison, Mooney and Thoennes all competed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, all in the eight. Chris Carlson, Gaard and Quinton have rowed at the senior level at World Cup events, but will be making their World Championships debut. Ezra Carlson competed at the last full World Championships regatta, which was held in 2019.

Numerous additional current and former Washington rowers will also compete for their countries at World Championships. Once all of the rosters are set, we will provide a full rundown here at GoHuskies.com.
