Swim & Dive Adds Assistant Coach Roric Fink

Aug 17, 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Swimming & Diving head coach Augie Busch announced the addition of assistant coach Roric Fink to the program on Wednesday.

Fink, who brings over two decades of experience to the role, returns to Tucson after an extended stint as one of the Wildcats assistant coaches from 2003-10.

"I am incredibly excited about brining Roric back to Tucson to join our staff," Busch said. "Having known him for many years, you won't find a more knowledgeable, likable, or passionate coach than Roric. He has experienced enormous success at every level he has coached and brings an unselfish, athlete-centered spirit and mentality to his approach. He will add tremendous value to our staff and program, likely in a very short period of time. I can't wait to once again share the Hillenbrand pool deck with him."

Prior to returning to Tucson, Fink spent time as an assistant coach at Southern Methodist University during the 2021-22 season and as an associate head coach at Texas (2012-20) and Missouri (2010-12).

"I am excited to return to Tucson and the University of Arizona," Fink said. "Tucson is an amazing place to live. I know the coaching staff well and am excited to have an opportunity to work with them at Arizona. Of course, the student-athletes are what make this program tick and I have been overwhelmed with how welcoming they have been before I even arrive in Tucson. Bear Down!"

Fink also boasts extensive and impressive club coaching experience, having built one of the nation's top aquatics clubs, Ford Aquatics, right here in Tucson. While at Ford Aquatics he steered the development of Lacey Nymeyer, Dave Rollins, Tyler DeBerry, and Marcus Titus, all of whom went on to win NCAA National Championships with Arizona.

Prior to Ford Aquatics, Fink spent five years with the Phoenix Swim Club from 1995-2000 while also assisting with the USA National Team. Over the course of his international work he guided athletes that included Jeff Rouse and Gary Hall Jr., a pair who represented Team USA in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and Klete Keller who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Fink's Arizona ties run deep, having coached program legend Amanda Beard to qualifications at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships and the 2011 World Championships.

Coach Fink is a 1986 graduate of Whitworth College and earned his master's degree in business administration in 2000.
