Fowler Named To MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

Aug 25, 2022

SEATTLE – Washington's Sam Fowler was one of 38 student-athletes named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday.

The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.

During the 2021 season, Fowler allowed only 18 goals during the season with 62 saves over 21 matches. His 0.74 goals against average was the eighth nationally and his career 0.72 GAA ranks second in program history. Over his UW career, Fowler has recorded 21 shutouts – including eight last season – and sits in fourth in program history.

Fowler is one of three goalkeepers to earn this recognition and one of two Pac-12 honorees.

Fifteen men's players and 15 women's players become Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following completion of Division I All-America voting following the fall season. Then on Dec. 7, the top three players from a final round of voting are the 2021 finalists. The 2022 winner is revealed on Jan. 6, 2023, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
