Late Goal Lifts Fifth-Ranked Beavers

Aug 25, 2022

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Dante Williams and Ellis Spikner's goals proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win over UC Davis at Paul Lorenz Field on Thursday night for the fifth-ranked Oregon State men's squad.

"Tonight was a great night to be back at Lorenz," said head coach Terry Boss. "We've waited a long time for this and I couldn't be more proud of the group. They were focused and disciplined. UC Davis is a great team and I'm proud of the way we responded throughout the game. We had a lot of great performances but it's something we can improve on and make better for Monday."

On an unassisted play, Dante Williams broke a scoreless match through the game's first 39 minutes. Oregon State carried the momentum for much of the first half and it showed on the scoreboard. At the break, the Beavers outshot the Aggies by a lopsided 11-3 margin and held a 5-1 advantage in corners.

13 minutes into the game's second stanza, the visitors broke through the staunch Beaver backline to even the game at a goal apiece. Max Glasser fed Marcus Garcia the ball, who then shot it past OSU's Jesus Sanchez.

In an effort to swing back the momentum to the hosts, Spikner grabbed the lead for the Beavers after help from Gael Gilbert. Oregon State never looked back and sealed the opening win.

Sanchez made a pair of saves on the evening in the match's entirety. Offensively, Oregon State fired 18 shots toward UC Davis' Charles Janssen, and eight of which were on frame.

The Beavers will continue their homestand on Monday night when Utah Valley visits Corvallis. Kick off between the Beavers and Wolverines is slated for 6 p.m.
