Women’s Basketball Announces Non-Conference Slate

Aug 25, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance, the University of Utah women's basketball head coach Lynne Roberts has announced the 2022-23 non-conference schedule that includes eight games in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

"We've put together a fantastic non-conference schedule," remarked Roberts. "We have a really talented and motivated group returning, and we wanted to challenge them, as we always have to prepare for the incredibly competitive Pac-12 conference. We are looking forward to participating in the Pac-12 / HBCU alliance by playing at Mississippi Valley State, and we are very excited for the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship, where we will play two extremely competitive SEC teams, in Alabama and Ole Miss. We are all ready for this upcoming season and excited to get going."

The Utes will play three teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2022 this year in Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and BYU. Utah will face Southeastern Louisiana and Mississippi Valley State for the first time in program history during the 2022-23 season.

After advancing to the Pac-12 Tournament Championship for the first time in program history, the Utes return to the court in the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the first time on Oct. 27 for their first exhibition game against Northwest Nazarene. On Nov. 1, Utah will close out exhibition play against Westminster College. Utah is 6-0 in exhibition games in the Roberts era.

During the 2021-22 season, Utah was the highest-scoring team in the Pac-12 (17th NCAA), averaging 75.9 points per game, and is the fourth-highest figure in school history and the highest since 1980-81. Utah also led the Pac-12 in three-pointers made (7th NCAA; school-record 312), three-point attempts (7th NCAA; 876), assists per game (39th NCAA; 15.3), free throws made (18th NCAA; 469), and free throw attempts (43rd NCAA; 602).

Utah opens the 2022-23 season with four straight home games, kicking off against Idaho on Nov. 7. Utah closes the first week of the season by hosting Utah Valley on Nov. 11 and Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 13.

The Utes close the homestand on Nov. 16 when Oklahoma comes to town. Last year, the Utes and Sooners matched up in an epic showdown in Norman, Oklahoma.

Utah hits the road for the next four games as they head to the Bahamas to participate in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship. The Utes will face two SEC foes in the Bahamas, starting with Alabama on Nov. 21, and they conclude the tournament play against Ole Miss on Nov. 23.

Following the Bahamas trip, the Utes travel to Mississippi Valley State for a non-conference game on Dec. 1. This contest is part of the Pac-12 and Southwestern Athletic Conference agreement set last season.

The four straight road games conclude on Dec. 10 when the Utes make the trip south to face BYU in Provo.

Two of the final three non-conference games will be played at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Utes face UC Riverside on Dec. 17 before heading to Weber State on Dec. 20. The last non-conference game is set for Dec. 22 when the Utes host the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah.
