Card Claims Carmel Cup Championships

Sep 4, 2022

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – For the fourth straight season, Stanford women's golf began a season with both a team and individual champion at an event, this year claiming both championships at the 2022 Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The Cardinal finished 12-under in the play-six, count-five format, besting second-place Texas A&M by 13 strokes and third-place Oklahoma State by 28 shots.

Sophomore Rose Zhang began her sophomore campaign much like she both began and ended her freshman season, with a win. After setting the Pebble Beach women's course record with a 9-under 63 Saturday, Zhang finished off a dominant five-stroke victory with an even-par 72 on Sunday. The win was the fifth of Zhang's career (in 11 starts), the fifth-most victories in program history.

Three Cardinal finished in the top four, as Zhang led the way at 13-under 203, the fifth-best 54-hole score in program history and Zhang's third best at Stanford. Freshman Megha Ganne, playing in her first collegiate event, finished as the runner-up with an 8-under 208. Junior Sadie Englemann was tied for fourth with a 2-under 214, giving the Cardinal three of the eight players in the field under par.
