Szatmary Named MPSF Newcomer Of The Week

Cal freshman Marton Szatmary has been named the MPSF Men's Water Polo Newcomer of the Week.
Szatmary exploded on to the scene during his first collegiate action over the weekend, tallying 24 total points during four lopsided wins by the No. 1 Bears at the Navy Open. Szatmary totaled 11 goals and 13 assists as Cal outscored its opponents 102-26.
Szatmary was especially productive during the two games on the final day of the Navy Open, registering six goals, nine assists and two steals as Cal defeated No. 11 Princeton 22-7 and Navy 24-8.
The Bears play their home opener on Friday against No. 5 Pacific at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Bears also take on No. 13 UC San Diego on Saturday and No. 10 Pepperdine on Sunday.
