Mauri’s Victory Highlights First Cross Country Meet

Sep 17, 2022

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Head coach Ryun Godfrey's cross country team had a strong day at the UC Riverside Invitational, the meet highlighted by Vincent Mauri running a 23:25.7 to win the men's 8K and help the team to an eighth place finish. Lena Lebrun led the women's team, finishing 16th in the 6K in 20:44.8.

"We saw some pretty good fight in the team today," Godfrey said. "Some kids could do better but it was a good assessment and we saw some really great things. Our freshmen ran really well so I was impressed to see some true freshmen get in there and not be afraid to get after it."

"I just wanted to go out and have a good workout and have fun with it before I have to run at the Pac-12 meet and it's all business," Mauri said. "It was good to have a little bit of fun and business - but more fun than business. I was mostly thinking of how the team was behind me and wanted to make sure I took a good low stick to help take the load off the others and get that good team finish."

ASU runs one final time before the Pac-12 Championships. The Sun Devils are in action Friday Sept. 30 at Arizona's Dave Murray Invitational.
