USC’S Madison Sieg Wins Singles Title at Milwaukee Classic, Claims Doubles Title with Naomi Cheong

USC freshman Madison Sieg made a strong USC debut by winning the singles championship at the 2022 Milwaukee Classic, defeating fellow Trojan Naomi Cheong in the finals on Sunday, Sept. 18.  
 
With the win, freshman phenom Madison Sieg took home the Milwaukee Classic singles title and the automatic berth into the ITA Fall Championships. Coming to The Women of Troy as the No. 5 ranked recruit in the country, Sieg made the most of her collegiate debut, defeating teammate and No. 85 ranked Naomi Cheong 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the championship match.
 
Entering the tournament as the top seed, Sieg and Cheong took down Chie Kezuka and Miska Kadleckova of Iowa State, 6-1, in the championship match to secure the USC sweep on the women's side of play. 
 
With the wins at the 2022 Milwaukee Tennis Classic, Sieg becomes the fourth USC player to be crowned the Women's Singles Champion joining the likes of Angela Kulikov (2019), Linda Siegel (1981), and Diane Desfors (1976), while in doubles, Sieg and Cheong mark the first Women's Doubles Champions for USC at this event. 
 
An additional two players made their USC debut's over the weekend, with freshman Emma Charney winning the top flight at the Tribe Hall of Fame Invitational in Virginia. Charney would defeat Gurholt (WM) 7-5, 7-6(4) while graduate transfer Nathalie Rodilosso would fall 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 to Semra Aksu (VT) in the semifinals.  
 
Up next, the Women of Troy will continue their divide and conquer approach as part of the squad will travel to Cary, N.C. for the Fall Ranked Spotlight, while the others head up north for San Francisco's Battle in the Bay. All action begins Thursday, Sept. 22 and continues through Sunday, Sept. 25.
