Buffs Kick Off Season At The Battle In The Bay Classic

Sep 20, 2022

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's tennis team heads to San Francisco to take part in The Battle in the Bay Classic starting Thursday.

Colorado will send senior Antonia Balzert, who had nine singles wins in duals last season, as well as junior Aya El Sayed. El Sayed competed for New Jersey Institute of Technology last season and had a 19-7 record.

The Buffaloes are looking to improve from last year in the second season under head coach Anthony Pham. Colorado picked up three ranked wins last season, the most since 2015.

Balzert and El Sayed will compete in singles and as a doubles team this weekend with the first day being singles play only, followed by a day of both and finishing with a doubles-only day. Last season the Buffs send three athletes and finished with a 2-4 record in singles play with a 1-4 record in doubles play.

The rest of the squad will pick up action next week when the team splits with four athletes heading to San Diego and the other four heading to CSU.
