Jackson Lake Paces Beavers To Third-Place Tie After 18 in Michigan

Sep 26, 2022

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Oregon State men's golf team is in a tie for third place after 18 holes Monday at the Folds of Honor Collegiate. The three-day event is being held at the par-72, 7,128-yard American Dunes Golf Club.

"It was a really nice start by our guys today in some really cold, wet, and windy conditions," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "The toughest part today was judging the wind direction and how much impact it would have on each shot. On one shot the wind would be a little into, and then you get up on the next tee on a very slight change in direction and all of the sudden the wind was helping. It makes a huge difference on a day like today with the conditions we faced to have all five players 'in the game' and potentially be a counting score."

Jackson Lake is tied for fourth to pace the Beavers, who shot a 4-over 292 as a team. Lake was just one of 11 competitors to finish under par on the first day, finishing with a 1-under 71. He eagled the par-5 second hole and finished with a birdie at par-4 11th.

Collin Hodgkinson, who posted a top-10 finish in Seattle last week, followed closely in a tie for 12th, shooting a par-72. He picked up two birdies on the day – the second and par-4 17th) to help Oregon State to 10 as a team. The Beavers finished midway through the 18-team pack for birdies, but were third with 62 pars, one shy of Michigan State and Clemson. Lake and Hodgkinson each finished at par on 14 of 18 holes.

Mateo Fuenmayor gave the Beavers three golfers in the top-20 Monday, placing in a tie for 17th via a 1-over 73. He birdied the second and 16th (par-4) holes.

Both Carson Barry and Rylan Johnson are heading into Tuesday's second round tied for 38th after shooting a 4-over 76 on Monday. Barry made birdies on three par-5 holes: the sixth, 13th and 18th. Johnson, meanwhile, birdied two par-3 holes: the fourth and 12th.

The teams will complete 18 more holes Tuesday before finishing the tournament with a final 18 on Wednesday.
