Barksdale Competes at the ITA All-American

Oct 1, 2022

CARY, N.C. – Kaila Barksdale of the University of Utah's women's tennis team made her Utah debut on Saturday afternoon in the ITA All-American Championships.

"Tough experience for Kaila's first collegiate tennis match," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "However, it's an extremely valuable one as she looks to transition to competing at a high level day in and day out. She certainly has a lot of the tools and I think having this experience early is going to be extremely beneficial as we set the pathway for her growth in our program. Looking forward to getting another quality match tomorrow then getting out on the practice courts."

Barksdale matched up against Sara Ziodato of University of Virginia in her first match. Barksdale battled but came up short against Ziodato as she was defeated 6-0, 6-2.

Barksdale returns to action on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. when she faces Sally Pethybridge of Portland.

Utah is set to play Sunday at the USD intercollegiate Invitational and the ITA All-American Championships.
