Oct 6, 2022
Fahmi Ibrahim has scored in three straight games for the Bears.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cal men's soccer team tied Oregon State, 1-1, on an eventful Thursday night at Lorenz Field. With the Golden Bears down 1-0, Fahmi Ibrahim scored a second-half equalizer with his third goal in three games as the two teams settled for the draw.

Cal's record is now 3-3-4 (1-2-1 in the Pac-12). The Beavers have a record of 4-3-2 (1-1-1 Pac-12).

Oregon State took a 1-0 lead when Dante Williams scored in the ninth minute, and the Beavers held onto the lead through 45 minutes.

In the 53rd minute, Ibrahim stole the ball about 30 yards from the Oregon State goal and dribbled into the box. He roofed a shot past OSU goalkeeper Luis Castillo for his team-leading fifth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Ibrahim, a senior forward, was red carded for a foul in the 71st minute, and Cal played the rest of the game a man down. Cal tightened its defense, goalkeeper Collin Travasos made two of his four saves down the stretch and the Bears left Corvallis with one point.

"It was a tale of two halves for us," Cal head coach Leonard Griffin said. "We didn't have the best first half, but we made halftime adjustments, competed well and took it to them a bit in the second half. I was extremely happy to get the goal to even it up.

"It was a fantastic play. Fahmi applied pressure at the right time defensively. He did a good job of reading the play and did a better job of getting into the box and having a fantastic finish. In the end I'm extremely proud of the group for battling and keeping the game tied."

Cal next plays at top-ranked Washington on Sunday at 2 p.m.
