Cougars Complete First Day at Husky Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. (Oct. 7, 2022) – Freshman Eva Alvarez Sande and sophomore Maxine Murphy each posted three-set singles wins to highlight the first day of play at the 2022 Husky Invitational Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center and Bill Quillian Stadium courts.
 
The Husky Invitational is played in a hidden dual format, where six singles matches are contested against one school and three doubles matches against another. The Cougars' first day saw them face Oregon in singles and Washington and DePaul in doubles.
 
Alvarez Sande rallied from a set down to complete a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 win over Oregon's Ares Teixido Garcia. Not to be outdone, Murphy also needed three sets to defeat Oregon's Karin Young, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
 
In doubles action, WSU combined to go 3-3 against Washington and DePaul, taking two matches against DePaul and one against Washington.
 
Play continues Saturday at the Husky Invitational, with WSU opening the day with singles at 10 a.m. against DePaul followed by doubles against Oregon at 1 p.m.
