Cal Records Strong First Day At ITA Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. – The Golden Bears captured 15 of 16 matches as the Cal women's tennis team started the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Friday at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
All three Cal doubles teams won their round of 64 matches in the morning, with the second-seeded Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm, the fourth-seeded and 57th-ranked Valentina Ivanov and Hannah Viller Moeller, and Erin Richardson and Makenna Thiel advancing to Saturday's round of 32.
 
Six Bears each won twice in singles Friday, with the second-seeded and 50th-ranked Alsola, the fifth-seeded and 97th-ranked Wiersholm, the seventh-seeded Viller Moeller, the ninth-seeded Ivanov, Richardson and Thiel moving on to play in Saturday's round of 32. Cal sophomore Cami Brown, who fell in singles Friday, next plays in the consolation draw at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
 
The regional tournament continues on Saturday, with one round of doubles matches opening the action at 9 a.m.
